The Legends Event Center was designed to enhance public health, cultural awareness, and economic vitality. The center features eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, a gaming arena, an eSports lounge, and private event rooms. Gessner Engineering supported the project with integrated geotechnical, surveying, and construction materials testing services. Our team provided initial data collection in the form of geotechnical investigations and land surveying. We verified materials met specification in quality and placement with construction material testing services. Setting the stage with accurate boundary and topographic survey data and geotechnical recommendations to ensure a stable foundation, then following through with comprehensive testing services for soils and concrete, we contributed to the delivery of a safe and high-quality facility for the community.

Challenges
One of the primary challenges during construction was the region’s expansive soil, which necessitated an elevated foundation system. However, budget constraints required a more cost-effective alternative.
Solutions
To address this, our team recommended a jointed slab-on-grade system, supported by soil stabilization techniques to mitigate potential expansion risks. The client over-excavated four feet of soil, chemically stabilized eight feet of exposed soil, and compacted four feet of select fill to create suitable conditions for the foundation. This solution helped the client stay within budget while delivering a high-quality facility that will serve the community for years to come.
